yWriter is a word processor which breaks your novel into chapters and scenes, helping you keep track of your work while leaving your mind free to create. It will not write your novel for you, suggest plot ideas or perform creative tasks of any kind. yWriter was designed by an author, not a salesman!

yWriter6 is free to download and use,it is a standalone application which runs on Windows PCs. It doesn’t need or use an internet connection, and all data is stored on your own computer.

yWriter is also available on Android & iOS.

Features:

  1. Organise your novel using a project.
  2. Add chapters to the project.
  3. Add scenes, characters, items and locations.
  4. Display the word count for every file in the project, along with a total.
  5. Saves a log file every day, showing words per file and the total. (Tracks your progress)
  6. Saves automatic backups at user-specified intervals.
  7. Allows multiple scenes within chapters
  8. Viewpoint character, goal, conflict and outcome fields for each scene.
  9. Multiple characters per scene.
  10. Storyboard view, a visual layout of your work.
  11. Re-order scenes within chapters.
  12. Drag and drop of chapters, scenes, characters, items and locations.
  13. Automatic chapter renumbering.
